Visit Horton Plains National Park
This Will be a most memorable
trekking journey in your whole life. Better accommodate in Nuwara Eliya to
start visiting in Horton Plains. There are two options to get there. By a Tuk
Tuk and with a van or jeep.
Before day night ask your hotel to pack breakfast for next
day morning. Better start from the hotel about 5:15 am or 5:30 at last, since
en route can see a most beautiful sunrise through the mountains. It’s about 1.5
hours journey to the ticket office and after buy tickets, another 20 minutes’
drive to the car park. Have your breakfast you take away from the hotel.
Make sure before you get in to the park, you don’t have any
plastics or polythene bags which will damage to the nature. Any lighters, cigarettes
or alcohol will not be allowed inside to the jungle. So please don’t try to
bring those.
When you get in to the track, start walking about 1km. you’ll
meet two ways. But it’s a circle track. Most of people keen to start from the
left. But the best way to be alone, escape the crowd start from the right.
At first you’ll meet a pool on your right side. If the road
is not muddy and not raining you can get there to touch that pure clean and
naturally filtered water. If not, you have to escape the road beside the pool
and get on the mountain by steps on your left.
In next few kilometers you’ll meet another way to get down.
It’s a waterfall. Bakers Fall. This waterfall is so beautiful in the raining
season. To continue you have get back on to where you get down and turn left. Keep
go on for another two kilometers to the first most beautiful view point called “Greater
World’s End”.
The reason this place called world’s end is, when Mr Horton Horton
get to this place (by a horse at those days), everywhere was covered with fog
and couldn’t see anything. In this reason he called this place as “World’s End”.
This is the story spread among the locals in Nuwara Eliya. This point is 180
degrees view. Stunning view. But be careful on the edge of the rock there. Very
slippery. Very dangerous. Don’t get to the edge to take photos of selfy.
After here about another 2 kilometers you’ll get to “Mini
World’s End” which doesn’t have a panoramic view but beautiful. Meanwhile enjoying
this track don’t forget to look around on the trees for tiny beautiful and cute
birds. In here can see about 10 spices of endemic birds to Sri Lanka.
