Galle was a colonial city of Portuguese, Dutch and English
at last. But the present fort city and rampart was built by Dutch in the 17th
Century. This rampart is very think and you can walk all alone on the rampart.
On east end have the old prison, north of rampart have the clock tower and
South part have the lighthouse.
Galle fort is a best place to see the Dutch architectural
designs. Still there are few buildings which has it’s old view. Present
Maritime Museum which was the warehouse. Others are Groote Kerk and the
Amangalla Hotel. Inside the Galle fort have many old type houses and buildings
in Dutch style. With in this city has many hotels, guesthouses and villas as
well. There are so many souvenirs shops which you can buy lots of made in Sri
Lanka.
